The Babel Hiking & Book Club (or, A Sexual Odyssey) tells the story of a recently retired fifty-five-year old Exxon geologist who is wealthy, attractive, and now has a lot of free time. Kieran decides to start his own book club based on three things he enjoys: traveling, hiking, and reading. The unusual aspect of his book club is that it will include just himself and a different female to accompany him to thirteen different locations: Colorado, Canada, Hawaii, Norway, Iceland, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, New Zealand, Bali, Borneo, Thailand, and Japan. Kieran states after hiking that they will discuss a book by a writer who has written about that place. Kieran states all expenses are paid and sex is not part of the deal. However, things start to happen and Kieran begins to lose his naivete about women and sex. The question is whether or not he will find his soul mate on this Bildungsroman journey that turns out to be more sexual than spiritual.
Excerpt from the book
The water was not fine. It was freezing cold. However, after a while, my body adjusted and it wasn’t so bad after all. We swam further out into the lake and laughed as we splashed each other. I felt like a youngster again. Just totally carefree. That is, until Aurora came up next to me and embraced me.
I stared into her eyes feeling her hard nipples against my chest. It wasn’t long before she could feel my erection against her body as we gently kicked our legs to stay afloat. Then I leaned into her and kissed her. Then she embraced me with both of her arms and legs. One of her arms dropped down and guided me inside her. There was a semblance of warmth, despite the chill of the water, being inside her. It felt so good.
Then we both leaned sideways and used our free arms to swim back to shore while still maintaining our bodily connection. There was a large, flat, slanted rock by the shore that was at a twenty-degree angle where we collapsed. Without a wasted moment, Aurora pulled me down on top of her. We had only been copulating for about five minutes when I heard voices. Aurora raised her head and looked over my shoulder.
“Just some hikers,” she said. “A guy and a girl.”
I tried to pull out so I could get my clothes, but Aurora put her hands on my ass and held me in.
“Keep moving,” she said.
“What about the hikers?
“Let them watch.”
“Doesn’t it bother you having them look at us.
“No. I like it.”
